Cardinia Food Network

 
 

Over the last year a range of local community members, schools, farmers, businesses and organisations have been working to form the Cardinia Food Network. This Network forms the community engine room of the Cardinia Food Movement, playing a leading role in identifying and planning critical areas of action and providing a platform for networking, collaboration and mutual support.  

Two formal initial visioning and planning meetings held in August - September 2017, where we agreed to work under the 4 strategic areas of focus informed through extensive community consultation and research for the Food Domain of Cardinia Shire's Liveability Plan 2017-2029: 


1. Protecting and utilising fertile land as a source of fresh food for current and future generations.

2. Growing a vibrant local food economy which supports growers and enables people to access locally produced food.

3. Enhancing food knowledge, skills and culture within schools, workplaces, clubs and the wider community.

4. Reducing and diverting food waste from landfill and reusing water to grow food.

Discussion and visioning under these four strategic focus areas generated a host of ideas and pertinent points, some of which are summarised below.

These first gatherings also made it clear that there's further mapping we want to do, as a collective, to build our understanding of previous and existing initiatives, what's worked and why/why not and work already happening that we can support and amplify.

Join the Network

The Cardinia Food Network is an open platform, inclusive of all who have the time, energy and passion to be involved. 

Our meetings take place on the first Wednesday of the month, at Living Learning Centre, Pakenham from 6pm - 8pm.  Our next meeting is on Wednesday the 7th of November. Please contact Tanya to find out more and join the crew!
